Sometime in 2021, I started dreaming of a book shop with predominantly Chinese books carefully curated for its interesting story arcs, loveable characters, and beautiful illustrations.
As a reader, I often resort to buying books online because the local selection is usually limited, outdated or pricey. Popular fiction are few and far in-between (and so ridiculously ex$$$sive!) at local bookstores.
And so, Shiawase Books is my dream come true.
We are a new/used book shop that stocks only fiction, mostly written in Mandarin.
I want to help our readers cultivate a love for reading stories written in Mandarin.
So I’m gonna say no to academic books parading as storybooks, no to books that preach morality, no to books that coach emotion discipline and no to high-brow literature that is hard to digest for most readers.
